- Position: Two Part-Time Peace Education Project Officers
- Location: AHDR Offices, Home for Cooperation, Nicosia, Cyprus
- Start Date: Immediate employment
- Working Hours & Duration: 3 days per week, 6 months
Background
Since its establishment, the AHDR has aimed, through its work in history and peace education, to contribute to the advancement of critical thinking, historical understanding and the cultivation of a culture of peace and non-violence through its work with children, youth, educators and other members of society. The AHDR provides access to learning opportunities for individuals of every ability and every ethnic, religious, cultural and social background, based on respect for diversity and the dialogue of ideas.
Guided by its vision, AHDR continues to expand its work in history and peace education. To support this vision and the Association’s growing portfolio of projects, activities and partnerships, AHDR is strengthening its team to ensure the effective and sustainable development of its work.
AHDR is seeking a part-time Peace Education Project Officer to support the development and implementation of its peace education projects. The Officer will work across projects according to the Association’s needs, priorities, and work plan. The work will involve different target groups, including children, young people, and parents.
Working closely with the AHDR Director and the rest of the AHDR team, the Peace Education Project Officer will contribute to the design, development and delivery of educational activities and resources; outreach and stakeholder engagement; pilot and other educational activities; and the evaluation and further development of peace education projects. The Officer will help ensure that the educational goals of projects are met and that AHDR’s vision, policies and educational approach are reflected consistently in its activities.
Key Responsibilities
The Peace Education Project Officers will contribute to the following areas:
1. Development and Design of Peace Education Projects
- Develop and contribute to the overall concept, framework, structure and implementation model of peace education projects in consultation with the AHDR Director and relevant members of the AHDR team;
- Identify target groups and their needs and ensure these are reflected in project design;
- Develop thematic areas, learning objectives, expected outcomes, activities, formats and implementation timelines;
- Research relevant educational approaches, methodologies, resources and good practices that can inform AHDR’s peace education work;
- Ensure that projects reflect AHDR’s educational approach, mission and priorities and are responsive to participants from different backgrounds.
2. Development of Educational Content and Methodology
- Develop and coordinate educational content, activities and supporting materials for peace education projects;
- Develop learning objectives, participatory methodologies, lesson or session plans and facilitator guidance, where relevant;
- Identify existing AHDR educational resources that can be adapted or incorporated into project activities and identify additional materials that may need to be developed;
- Ensure that educational content is accessible, age-appropriate where relevant, and responsive to the needs and interests of different target groups;
- Work closely with the AHDR Director and relevant staff to ensure the educational quality, coherence and consistency of project content and methodologies.
3. Implementation, Outreach and Educational Activities
- Plan, organise and facilitate workshops, information sessions, pilot activities and other educational activities foreseen under peace education projects;
- Prepare programmes, content, activities, materials and relevant logistical requirements in coordination with the AHDR team;
- Support outreach to participants, educational stakeholders, organisations and other relevant groups;
- Contribute to communication and dissemination related to educational activities in coordination with relevant AHDR staff.
4. Coordination, Networking and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work under the supervision of the AHDR Director and maintain regular communication regarding project development and implementation;
- Participate in relevant AHDR meetings, planning processes and consultations;
- Coordinate with AHDR staff, facilitators, educators, specialists and external contributors, where relevant;
- Support the development and strengthening of networks among participants and relevant educational and civil society stakeholders;
- Identify potential partners and opportunities for educational collaboration and stakeholder engagement;
- Support the organisation of networking and stakeholder events, including programme development, participant outreach and coordination with the AHDR team;
- Maintain organised records of materials, participants, contacts, consultations and outputs developed through project activities.
5. Evaluation, Sustainability and Further Development
- Develop and apply appropriate mechanisms for gathering feedback and evaluating educational activities;
- Analyse feedback and identify strengths, challenges, emerging needs and areas for improvement;
- Revise educational approaches, activities, materials and implementation plans based on findings and feedback;
- Provide recommendations for the longer-term implementation, sustainability and further development of AHDR peace education projects;
- Identify opportunities for projects and educational resources to be adapted, expanded or developed for different audiences;
- Contribute to reports summarising activities, findings, feedback and recommendations, as required.
6. Contribution to AHDR’s Institutional and Operational Capacity
- Works under the supervision of the AHDR Director, reports to the Director and works for the benefit of the Association in a spirit of collegiality;
- Abides by the Terms of Reference and accompanying documents;
- Complies with AHDR Code of Conduct;
- Follows the AHDR’s Operational Manual and procedures;
- Follows and contributes to AHDR’s Calendar;
- Attends meetings and contributes to the exchange of ideas and overall progress of the Association;
- Seeks capacity-building opportunities that are in line with their roles and responsibilities in the Association.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in relevant disciplines with minimum 2 years of relevant experience or;
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant disciplines with minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
Relevant fields may include History or Peace/Antiracist/Human Rights Education, or relevant fields, i.e. Intercultural Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Global Citizenship Education, Museum Studies or other related fields.
Competencies and Experience
- Substantive and technical expertise in relevant fields;
- Experience in the design and implementation of educational and/or research projects;
- Excellent research and analytical skills;
- Experience in fundraising and campaigning for education;
- Experience in outreach and communications;
- Multitasking ability;
- Excellent knowledge of the political situation in Cyprus and related challenges;
- Ability to actively seek to improve or offer creative options to solve problems;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work as part of a team;
- Ability to provide administrative and logistical support to educational projects;
- Demonstrated ability to adapt plans, prioritise and deliver tasks on time;
- Excellent computer skills, especially a very good command of MS Office;
- Fluency is required in written and spoken Turkish or Greek and English;
- Knowledge of a language of other communities in Cyprus will be considered an advantage;
- Demonstrated ability to cross and work in both communities;
- Experience in proposal writing will be considered an advantage;
