This year, on the 21st of September, join us to celebrate the joint efforts of civil society in #cultivatingpeace! The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR), Home for Cooperation (H4C), United Sports Cyprus (USC), and The Home Café are coming together for a full day of activities at the Home for Cooperation to mark the International Day of Peace.
The International Day of Peace is a globally recognized occasion, declared by the UN General Assembly, devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace through 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire. In a time of increasing challenges, civil society organizations worldwide are uniting to foster resilience and confront division, inequality, and violence—particularly against vulnerable and marginalized communities.
This year’s theme resonates with the ongoing efforts of AHDR, H4C, USC, and The Home Café, as we work to engage children, youth, and the public in building a culture of peace. Together, we aim to develop new forms of solidarity and prevent future generations from experiencing violent conflict.

Program of the Day
15:00-16:30 – Federal Power-Sharing: Living Diversity and Unity in Peace
Co-organized with the Embassy of Switzerland in Cyprus, this discussion will bring together representatives of Cypriot civil society and Professor Eva Maria Belser, co-director of the Swiss Institute on Federalism, to explore federalism as a model for peaceful coexistence in diverse contexts.

17:00-19:00 – Let’s Walk… Nicosia!
Facilitators Marios Epaminondas and Hayat Sebep will guide a walking tour across Nicosia’s divide, visiting significant spaces of socialization and political organizing that have shaped the city’s history.
