AHDR will host the first Beyond History: Applied History Education Laboratory on 20th November 2020.
The Laboratory will bring educators, teachers, teacher trainers, and academics from across the island to work on history education with a multi-perspectivity and multi-disciplinary approach in and beyond classroom.
Online Teacher Training
20th November 2020, Friday (on Zoom)
2.00 pm – 5.00 pm
Theme: With the widespread use of social media, online propaganda, populism, extremism, fake news and hate speech have become increasingly common around the world. The Laboratory invites teachers and educators to explore the influence of online propaganda and how historical literacy help us address the issue more effectively in and beyond classroom.
Aim: The focus will be on fostering critical thinking and how to generate discussions in the classroom when addressing online propaganda and hate speech on controversial issues. Also, it will serve as a platform for dialogue and fruitful discussion on different historical ideas and practices with each other. Additionally, the Laboratory will provide a space for discussing and reflecting on how to make use of the tools and knowledge gained through the training, as well as on the role of history education in contributing to tackle online hate speech and propaganda.
