The time I spent at the AHDR has been one of the most fruitful, meaningful and fulfilling experiences I could have hoped to have as an intern. Being deeply interested in learning more about the potential of peace education in the Cypriot context, I was lucky to start working at the office in February, when the ‘Imagine” project was in full swing. Initially, my work was mostly concerned with meeting the practical necessities of the program. Slowly, however, I became more engaged and, eventually, I was generously given the opportunity to facilitate some of the ‘Imagine’ workshops, acquiring unique experiences in peace and anti-racism education and experiential learning. The AHDR team not only offered me their trust, support and guidance throughout the internship, but truly embraced me and motivated me to continue learning and growing. I am happy and grateful to have spent the past four months working at the AHDR, a time that has been inspiring and has strengthened my conviction that education has the
potential to bring about ground-breaking change.

Completing my (4-month) internship at AHDR was an incredibly enriching experience, both professionally and personally. I was able to gain a deeper understanding of how an NGO functions within a context as complex and politically sensitive as Cyprus – and this in the bufferzone. It therefore offered me a unique perspective on peacebuilding and history and peace education which I couldn’t have made anywhere else. What made this internship especially meaningful was the open and collegial atmosphere in the office. My colleagues were not only approachable but also genuinely interested in exchanging ideas and knowledge, which led to many inspiring conversations. I particularly valued the opportunity to be fully engaged in projects and accompany study visits, as they allowed me to engage more closely with the realities and nuances of peace education in practice. Overall, I am grateful for everything I have learned during this time and for the trust, support, and guidance I have received throughout the internship.
