To fill a research gap and inform educational policy making relating to issues of history teaching and collective memory, through the study of representations of history and their relation to the quality of current intergroup relations between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, and their projection on the future as it relates to reconciliation and the solution of the Cyprus problem.
The research culminated in research report “History Educators in the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Community in Cyprus: Perceptions, Beliefs and Practices”
The research explores history teachers’ views of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot history curricula and textbooks presently used across the existing divide in Cyprus, as well as history teachers’ views on, and their use of methods that promote, historical thinking in their teaching.
