Demetra Socratous is a teacher, an adults’ trainer and a drama pedagogist. She obtained her degree in Education, and a minor in French Studies. She received two Master degrees, in ‘Drama and Theatre in Education’ and in ‘Arts and Culture Management’. Demetra has received academic and literature awards. She published the children’s books: “Mary and the White Pea” (on child cancer); “Truths, Dreams and Peace” (poetry collection); “Dad in a Cage” (on parental imprisonment); “Narrations on an island” (on child refugee crisis). Demetra is a youth leader and an active member of various socio-cultural organisations. She was the Coordinator of the ‘Youth and Culture’ group of Pafos 2017 Cultural Capital of Europe (2012), as well as the co-Coordinator of the Cyprus Youth Network of the European Cultural Parliament. She is a Heritage Youth Ambassador of the bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (UNDP). Her active involvement with AHDR dates to 2013, as a human rights and peace trainer for children/ teachers and later on, as the co-Coordinator of the project ‘independent Talking Across Generations on Education iTAGe 2021 Cyprus. Through her diverse roles and her peace building experience, she has witnessed the transformative power of dialogue in shaping mutual understanding and fostering harmony among diverse groups and communities.
