The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research and HASDER are organizing a photography contest in scope of the “Ivy Series: Youth and Gender Edition”.  The activities in scope of the “Ivy Series: Youth and Gender Edition” are funded by UNFICYP.

As part of the project, we are inviting participants to submit photographs that explore the expression of gender in their everyday lives and environment and how the understanding of the society or themselves about gender influences the everyday lives and practices of people in Cyprus.

Participants may take into consideration a number of questions including how is gender presented in our everyday practices? How are our daily practices, routines and traditions gendered? What are the images and expressions we see around our communities associated with femininity, masculinity and androgyny? Are gender roles rigid, are they open to change or are the lines among gender roles blurred in Cyprus today?

The photographs will be evaluated by a group of individuals, and the selected first three applicants will receive prizes.

The deadline for submissions is 29^th June 2021.

How to participate:

• Step 1:

Take out your phone/camera and capture how you understand gender through your lens. It can be a representation from your house, your culture, your traditions, out in your neighborhood, in urban centers or even out in the forests or mountains. Remember that we are not professional photographers so everything is welcome.

• Step 2:

Make your selections, edit if required (but please remember do not over-edit) and follow step 3 in order to submit your work.

Each piece should be accompanied by the date and place it was created and a short description (up to 100 words) explaining what it tells and the relevance to our theme. Also note that entries that do not comply with the terms and conditions will not be up for selection.
