Decisions and Dilemmas III
Submited on July 02, 2018 BACK TO NEWS

The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) is happy to inform its members and friends that we have been selected by EUROCLIO (European Association of History Educators) as a national coordinator for the Project Decisions and Dilemmas III. This project aims to support educators across Europe in teaching about the European Union in a motivating and meaningful way that resonates with students. We hope that through this project, students in Cyprus will become more aware and engaged in the European Union and democratic processes that are in place in Europe. The ambition of this project is to make educators, and thus students, aware of the importance of the EU and the complexities that accompany policy and decision making in the EU. Another aim of the project is to share the resources that had been developed in three previous projects with educators and citizens living in Europe.

The workshop will be facilitated by AHDR’s Educational Programs Officer Loizos Loukaidis, Board Member Hale Silifkeli, and Research Associate Evie Grouta, in collaboration with Joaquim Freire de Carvalho from the Association of History Professors (Associação de Professores de História) of Portugal. The workshop will be dealing with learning activities related to how European trade policies affect the economies of developing countries as well as how the migrant crisis has shaken the foundations and principles of the European Union. Concrete tools and lesson plans will be provided to teachers in order to deal with sensitive and controversial issues such as migration, refugee status, borders, social justice, integration and equality.

The workshop will be followed by a hands-on session on how the Historiana eLearning Environment works.

The workshop will take place on the 29th August, at the Forest Park Hotel in Platres and the working language will be English.  Full board accommodation for one night (28th August) and petrol expenses will be covered by the project.

Please fill in the registration forms and send them to [email protected] by the 2nd of August.
